Meet Henry
Henry F. Lewis has been practicing family law exclusively since he graduated law school and is certified by the California State Bar as a Family Law Specialist. His approach to family law in Oakland, CA, balances aggressive litigation with a focus on helping his clients make informed decisions as to how best to litigate their matter. This approach helps maximize the results for his clients while keeping litigation costs as reasonable as possible. Henry has a facility for taking complex financial issues and breaking them down so that they are easily understood by both the client and the Court.
Henry practices in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.
While handling all aspects of family law matters, Henry recently has been handling cases that include complex financial issues including complex intra-family financial dealings, complex tracings, business valuations, and alternative forms of compensation, such as stock options and Restricted Stock Units RSUs.
As a parent of two children, Henry is very much aware of the emotional issues that are naturally present in custody disputes, school choice and daycare issues, as well as the day-to-day needs of children. He has experience in custody disputes of varying levels, from disagreements over holiday schedules to complex international move-away cases.
In addition to his law degree, Henry also has a master’s degree in community and social psychology and has a certificate in Domestic Violence protection.
Certified Legal Specialist
Henry has been a Certified Legal Specialist in Family Law since 2013.
A Certified Family Law Specialist is an attorney who has been certified by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization.
In order to become a Certified Family Law Specialist an attorney must apply for such certification after demonstrating proficiency in the area of family law by completing the requisite experience and education in the field of family law. The attorney must have also taken and passed a written examination in the field of family law. This examination is similar to a one day bar examination but covers only family law related topics.
After becoming certified, Certified Family Law Specialists must continue to demonstrate a high level of experience and skill in the field of family law, fulfill the ongoing legal education requirements and be favorably evaluated by other attorneys/judges who are familiar with their work. This process is very rigorous and thus Certified Family Law Specialists may be few and far between.

Education / Associations
Henry graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, with a BA and a Master’s Degree in Community and Social Psychology. He also earned a certificated in Domestic violence prevention. He attended law school at the Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco.
Henry is a member of the Alameda and Contra Costa County bar associations. He is also a board member for the Association of Certified Family Law Specialists.

In his free time, Henry enjoys spending time with his children. Their favorite thing to do is travel to DisneyLand.
